The inevitable has happened and Virat Kohli is likely to retire from Test cricket, unless someone changes his mind. After Rohit Sharma's sudden retirement, it seems Kohli is following his footsteps but the BCCI has urged him to re-think about his decision as an all-important England tour is coming.

However, in all likelihood, Kohli shouldn't retire before or during the England Test series, but there is even a better way to say goodbye to his dear fans. Here is the ideal match where he should bid adieu to Test cricket.

When should Kohli retire from Tests?

India are set to tour England next month for a gruelling 5-match Test series and if the reports are to be believed, Kohli has already decided to retire from Tests. However, in an ideal scenario, he should play all five games of the tour since the batter has a point to prove.

During the last tour of Australia, Kohli scored a century at Perth, but since then he had a flop show. The batter now has a chance to showcase his class in the upcoming series and it could prove to be a redemption arc for him.

Post the England tour, West Indies will come to India for a two-match series and Kohli should play those games as well. However, once that tour is done and dusted, India will play against South Africa at home and the first match is at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Kohli's homeground.

This is the ideal venue where he should call it quit. Just like his idol, Sachin Tendulkar, who played the two-match home series against West Indies and called it quit at his home stadium, Wankhede.

Why Kohli should stretch till the home series Vs WI and SA?

As per reports, Shubman Gill is likely to be appointed as the new Test captain and he needs a bit of guidance from his seniors. With no Rohit Sharma around, Kohli could be the guiding force and by the time the South Africa series would have come, Gill would have gained a bit of experience and Kohli would have likely played a huge role in giving India yet another strong Test captain.
