In an unusual turn of events, Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), found himself at the center of attention following his team's 81-run loss to the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator match held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, May 24th.
During the match, a group of fans displayed insensitivity by chanting 'Kohli, Kohli' in a mocking manner, aimed at both the Lucknow players and their mentor, Gautam Gambhir. This incident occurred while Gambhir was engrossed in a serious conversation with Mumbai Indians' mentor, Sachin Tendulkar, near the stands.
Earlier in the season, there was a heated exchange between former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, Virat Kohli, and the Lucknow players and Gambhir during a match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. This incident further escalated when Lucknow's Naveen-ul-Haq and Kohli engaged in a war of words through social media posts.
Adding to the unsettling situation, some insensitive fans resorted to hurling nuts and bolts towards the Lucknow players near the boundary ropes and dugout. This unfortunate incident took place following a no-ball controversy during their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
