Potential venues for IPL 2025 [Source: AP Photo]
The unthinkable happened on Friday morning as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended for one week due to the ongoing war-like situation between India and Pakistan. The situation got out of hand when the Punjab Kings Vs Delhi Capitals match at Dharamsala was abandoned due to security reasons.
Now, as per the IPL official confirmation, the league will re-start next week if the situation allows. However, with the current scenario, there is a good chance that the remainder of the tournament could be moved out of India. Hence, here are 3 potential venues where IPL 2025 matches could be hosted.
1) South Africa
The 2009 IPL season was shifted from India to South Africa due to the General Elections in the nation. The season was one of the most successful in the history of the league as the matches went smoothly.
Interestingly, BCCI has great relations with Cricket South Africa and all the teams in SA20, South Africa's franchise league are being owned by IPL sides. Hence, transition from India to South Africa won't be a major task.
2) England
IPL has never been played in England, but on Friday, former English batter, Michael Vaughan gave a nice little suggestion that the remainder of the season could be completed in England and then India can continue playing against the home nation in a 5-match Test series.
Even in The Hundred, England's premium T20 tournament, IPL sides have bought stakes and hence, the cold, winterish English conditions could also be an option for the IPL season to continue.
3) Sri Lanka
Just like India and South Africa, Sri Lanka and India also share a great relation, and hosting the remainder of the league in the neighbouring country is also a feasible option. The conditions in Sri Lanka will be similar to what India has and the players won't find it difficult to get used to the conditions in the Island Nation.
