Nicholas Pooran once again showed his worth to this Lucknow Super Giants side and played one of the finest counter-attacking knocks of the ongoing Indian Premier League.

In a must-win match, LSG were jolted with early wickets. The conditions favoured the seam bowlers and both Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana utilised it to perfection. However, Pooran steadied the sinking ship once again and helped LSG post on the board.

Pooran blitz takes LSG to a decent total

With heavy rain taking place in Kolkata for the last few days, the cloud covers were on as Nitish Rana elected to bowl first. Fair to say that the KKR seamers were making the ball talk as both Quinton de Kock and Karan Sharma found it difficult to get going.

LSG lost Karan Sharma for just 3, but they had a brief partnership between QDK and Prerak Mankad. Just when everything was going well for the visitors, the fall of Mankad changed the complexion of the game as LSG lost a flurry of wickets.

At one stage, they were tottering at 73 for 5, when Pooran joined hands with Ayush Badoni. In a surprising move, KKR brought in Suyash Sharma as the impact player to control the proceedings. However, with Pooran being such a good player of spin bowling, he found the right opportunity and started the repair work with a couple of massive blows to Varun Chakravarthy.

In his first three deliveries, Pooran smashed 4, 4, 6 and announced his intention in just three deliveries.

He then took on Suyash with a 4 and a 6 in the 15th over as LSG moved towards a big total.

Pooran was ably supported by Badoni, who played the perfect second fiddle and helped the LSG side steer towards a respectable total. Despite Badoni falling down for 25, Pooran continued the onslaught and reached yet another IPL fifty in just 28 deliveries.

He dealt a couple of sixes off the bowling of Shardul Thakur, but the seam bowler had the last laugh, dismissing him for a gritty 58 off 30 balls.
