The benchmarks for any Indian batter in cricket are Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Shubman Gill has been on a run-making spree, that witnessed the 23-year-old register his maiden Test, One-Day International (ODI), and T20I hundred, apart from slamming an ODI double ton as well.

In the ongoing IPL 2023 as well, Gill for Gujarat Titans (GT) has 576 runs in 13 matches, that includes his maiden ton, which came against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday.

Gill's consistency in the past 12 months or so has matched to that of Tendulkar and Kohli, who churned out centuries like anything in their prime.

Former India opener Robin Uthappa believes that Gill has the potential to carry forward Tendulkar and Kohli's legacy.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player also spoke in high regards about Rajasthan Royals' Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Here's what Uthappa said

“I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment.

I feel and believe personally that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things of Indian cricket.”

Jaiswal (575) is only one run behind Gill and is the third-highest run-getter this season.

Uthappa also expressed reservations about adding the likes of Jaiswal and Rinku Singh to the India's World Cup 2023 side, saying it could derail the plan set in motion by the management for the marquee event.
