Ricky Ponting OUT?! Irfan Pathan Suggests This Ex-Indian Player As The New Coach for Delhi Capitals

Speculation is mounting over Ricky Ponting's potential departure as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals due to their poor performance in the Indian Premier League 2023 season. With the team currently at the bottom of the points table under the leadership of David Warner, changes are expected.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has proposed a replacement for Ponting, suggesting that Sourav Ganguly, who is already part of the franchise's support staff, should assume the coaching role.

"Sourav Ganguly's presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that."

He believes that Ganguly is the ideal candidate to coach the Delhi Capitals because he possesses a deep understanding of the psychological aspects specific to Indian players within the team.

During an exchange with Star Sports, Pathan also added:

"At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role."

This year has been especially tough for the team, however it is highly probable that Rishabh Pant will resume his role as the captain of the Delhi franchise in the next season, as he was temporarily replaced by David Warner due to an injury sustained last December 2022.

With Delhi Capitals out of the tournament, they are set to play their second last match of this tournament against the Punjab Kings scheduled in Dharamshala on 17 May at 7:30 PM
