Jofra Archer has been ruled out of England’s upcoming home season, including the much-awaited Ashes 2023. As per the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the speedster has sustained a recurrence of a stress fracture to his right elbow, an injury which also cut short his IPL 2023 campaign for Mumbai Indians midway into the tournament.

The 28-year-old will now undergo rehabilitation with England and Sussex medical teams, in a bid to return to England’s national setup.

Steve Smith responds to Jofra Archer’s ouster from Ashes 2023

Jofra Archer made his Test debut in the 2019 Ashes in England, snaring 22 Australian wickets across four of the five matches he played for his country. Notably, in his debut outing itself, the speedster constantly troubled Australia’s batting talisman Steve Smith with brutal pace and bounce.

However, Smith’s wicket eluded him throughout the series, as the Australian plundered 774 runs across four matches.

With Archer set to miss this year’s Ashes against the same opponents, an Australian-based publication claimed that the visiting batters will finally be able to breathe a huge sigh of relief. The news portal also added that the English paceman had already “terrorised” Steve Smith and others last time around.

As it turned out, Smith himself took note of the publication’s tweet and sarcastically asked them to remind him of the time he was dismissed by Archer. Here is a look at how the exchange panned out between the publication and the former Australian captain on Twitter:

In the meantime, the ECB have announced an Archer-less English team for the upcoming one-off Test against Ireland. Ben Stokes is set to don the Test leadership hat once again, as hosts set themselves up with much-needed dress rehearsal ahead of the 2023 Ashes.
