On May 11, Indian fans received some good news as reports of IPL 2025’s resumption surfaced. Apart from the IPL, some speculations related to India’s upcoming Test tour to England have also come to light.

Virat Kohli, for instance, is reportedly contemplating retirement from Test format, with the BCCI pursuing him to stay. Moreover, the squad announcement for India's England tour is also expected soon.

As for IPL, the resumption is likely around the corner with heavy changes in schedule and venues. Let’s look at the top 5 major cricket highlights that broke on May 11.

IPL Likely To Resume Next Week, Overseas Players Summoned

In a major move, the BCCI has asked all IPL franchises to ensure their overseas players return by Tuesday, May 13, as the tournament eyes a quick resumption following the ceasefire at the India-Pakistan border. According to The Indian Express, the BCCI is working on a revised schedule, with plans to introduce more double-headers to cover up for the lost time.

Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad are 3 venues reportedly shortlisted to conduct the remaining matches. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings apparently stopped their foreign players from leaving India, and their squad is intact. However, certain players from England and Australia might not choose to return.

Virat Kohli Unlikely To Budge On Test Retirement

In what could be a setback for India, Virat Kohli has reportedly remained firm on retiring from Test cricket, despite the BCCI’s efforts to convince him otherwise ahead of India’s squad selection for the England tour. As per TOI, Kohli informed the selectors 2 weeks ago of his decision, even as the board hoped he would continue following Rohit Sharma’s retirement.

Jasprit Bumrah Reportedly Turned Down Test Captaincy

India’s generational fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has reportedly declined the offer to become India’s next Test captain, citing workload management concerns, according to Sky Sports Cricket. With Rohit Sharma retiring, the BCCI had considered Bumrah for the role but has now turned to Shubman Gill. Gill is likely to be named captain, with Pant as his deputy. Bumrah, recently recovered from a back injury, wants to avoid the risk of playing all 5 Tests in England.

Josh Hazlewood Might Not Return For RCB In IPL 2025

RCB faces a major setback as pacer Josh Hazlewood is reportedly doubtful for the remainder of IPL 2025. Hazlewood, who missed RCB's last match due to a shoulder niggle, returned to Australia after the tournament’s suspension.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the seamer is set to join Cricket Australia's conditioning camp ahead of the WTC in June. With the BCCI planning to resume IPL around next week, Hazlewood may prioritise national duty over franchise commitments. But luckily, RCB’s captain, Rajat Patidar, will be fit once the season resumes.

IPL 2025 Final Venue To Be Changed

In another major breaking, the IPL 2025 final is likely to be shifted from Kolkata to Ahmedabad due to rain forecasts, with the new date expected to be June 1. The tournament, suspended on May 9 due to the India-Pakistan conflict, is likely to resume on May 16. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are expected to share points for their abandoned match on May 8.
