Tim Murtagh snared a six-fer in the second innings against Kent to power Middlesex to a nine-wicket win at Lord’s. The Stephen Eskinazi-led side has now moved up to number three on the 2023 County Championship Division One points table, having secured wins in successive games after their twin defeats upfront.

Notably, Murtagh had also claimed four wickets in the first innings, thus marking only his fifth 10-wicket match haul in first-class cricket.

With the feat, the Irish pacer has now completed 1,000 wickets for Middlesex across all formats. The seasoned campaigner made his debut for the cricket club back in 2007.

Tim Murtagh achieves all-time Middlesex record

In his 16-year journey with Middlesex, Tim Murtagh has turned up for the club in 210 first-class matches, 86 List A games and 59 T20 contests.

The 41-year-old is already the all-time leading wicket-taker for Middlesex in first-class cricket, having snared 828 of them in the prestigious format, thus putting him a staggering 360 scalps ahead of second-placed Toby Roland-Jones.

The speedster has also collected 119 One-Day wickets and another 53 in T20 matches, to push his overall Middlesex tally to 1,000 wickets. No other bowler in club history has surpassed the 700-wicket mark, with Toby Roland-Jones at 646 all-format wickets serving as the next best record for the club.

The legendary pacer also has international exposure, having served Ireland in their first three Test matches. With an exact 100 wickets for Ireland across game’s three leading formats, he remains one of the greatest fast bowlers to have emerged from his country.

Murtagh is set to continue his Championship commitment for Middlesex, as Stephen Eskinazi and co. will now go up against Surrey at The Oval on May 11.
