Former India skipper Virat Kohli has raised batting standards to heights that rarely anyone can achieve. Sadly, these benchmarks are set so high that even Kohli himself has found it difficult to replicate in the past, feels Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket Mike Hesson.

In other words, while speaking on RCB Podcast, Hesson stated that the former RCB captain became a victim of his own standards, as people expected Kohli to perform at his peak all the time.

Kohli, after suffering a three-year-long lean patch, came back into his run-making self post the 2022 Asia Cup. The Delhi-born struck his 75th international and 28th Test ton in the Ahmedabad Test a week ago.

Here's what Hesson said

"Virat has been so good for so long that the standards he had set were high for even him to achieve. The expectations from him are so much that, even if he was the highest run-scorer of 3 of the past 5 series for India, no one talks about that because he didn't score the hundred and didn't reach the heights that he set for himself."

On Kohli's form recently, the former New Zealand coach said that everyone backed the star batter to come good knowing his class and dedication towards the game.

The 34-year-old will be in action for India in the ODI series decider against Australia in Chennai tomorrow, before featuring in IPL 2023 for RCB.
