IND vs AUS: Pujara Claims Unwanted Record After Another Dismissal To Lyon
Pujara cleaned up by Lyon on Day 1 (ICC)
Cheteshwar Pujara notched up the winning runs in Delhi to take India 2-0 up in their four-match series against Australia. During the run-chase, the cricketer scored enough against familiar nemesis Nathan Lyon, to take his Test aggregate against him to 532 runs.
In doing so, Pujara became the most successful batter in Test history, in terms of scoring runs against any single bowler in the format. He surpassed the previous record holder Kumar Sangakkara, who had compiled 531 runs against former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal.
Nearly 10 days after reaching the illustrious Test height, Pujara has now achieved another record against Lyon, albeit an unwanted one this time around.
Lyons get Pujara twelfth time in Tests
Prior to the launch of Indore Test, Pujara was dismissed by England’s senior pacer James Anderson 12 times in Test cricket. In terms of Indian batters being dismissed the most number of times against a single bowler, he held the record alongside Sunil Gavaskar, who was also dismissed 12 times to former Englishman Derek Underwood.
Now, the Saurashtra-based batter features twice in the list as he handed his wicket to Nathan Lyon for the twelfth time in Tests. The Australian spinner cleaned up India’s number three and sent him packing back to the pavilion for a run on the opening morning, as the Indians were shot out for just 109.
Notably, Lyon became one of the most proficient bowlers against Pujara nearly just 10 days after the Indian had upstaged him in a one-on-one all-time battle in Test cricket.
The two cricketers are set to resume their rivalry in the second innings of this Test, as the hosts will aim to narrow their first-innings deficit and make Australia bat again.
