On this day, three years ago, Bangladesh scripted history by lifting their maiden U-19 World Cup title. They beat the Indian U-19 team by three wickets in a close encounter at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.

India posts a below-par total

Batting first, the Indian team were off to a slow start as Divyansh Saxena could only garner 2 off 17. Although, the star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and No.3 Tilak Varma played well, they could not increase the tempo, which was much-needed as a counter-attacking approach.

The duo added 94 runs for the second wicket before Varma was dismissed for 38 off 65. Soon, captain Priyam Garg (7) made his way back to the pavilion. Jaiswal produced an impressive knock of 88 off 121 balls, with eight fours and a six.

The handy contribution of wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel (22) helped India to post a below-par, but a competitive total of 177 on the board. Avishek Das was the pick of the bowlers for Tigers with three scalps.

Bangladesh seal a historic victory

Chasing 178, Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan provided a steady start to Bangladesh. The duo added 50-run opening stand, before Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for 17 by Ravi Bishnoi.

Tanzid's wicket opened the floodgates for India, as Bishnoi got better of Mahmudul Hasan Joy (8), Towhid Hridoy (0) and Shahadat Hossain (1) in quick succession. However, skipper Akbar Ali was proficient to negate the opposition and steer the team well along with Parvez.

Although the wicket of Parvez (47) put India back in the hunt, Akbar (43*) along with the tail-enders helped Bangladesh to chase down the score with eight overs to spare.
