BPL 2023: BCB calls TV umpire correct after Jaker Ali's controversial lbw decision

Bangladesh Cricket Board has come out in support the TV umpire Tanvir Ahmed and the technology - Alternate Decision Review System (ADRS) - used in the Bangladesh Premier League. 

A debate arose during the BPL fixture between Comilla Victorians and Fortune Barishal on Saturday, when Jakir Ali was given lbw out in the Comilla innings. The batter, within his rights, took the review. 

However, the replays showed that the ball pitched outside leg-stump, which the match officials came up using ARDS. As per the technology, the ball had not pitched inside the "pitching zone", generally considered in line with the stumps. 

As per ADRS, the third umpire go by a blue line for a pitching zone to depict the line of the stumps to make lbw decisions. The zoomed in camera angles tell about the edges or whether the ball has hit bat or bad first. Meanwhile, for picking up noise, they use the stump mics. 

Many have been critical about the technology used in the BPL 2023, and Comilla coach Mohammad Salahuddin has that the tournament is better without the use of ADRS.

The Bangladesh board have released a media release, expressing their side and defending the substitute of DRS that they are using.

"In accordance with this interpretation of the related rule, the TV umpire upheld the LBW (image showing the point of pitching of the ball attached) decision by the on-field umpire against Comilla Victorians batsman Jaker Ali in Comilla's match with Fortune Barishal at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdury Stadium in Chattogram today," said the press release.

There have been a few controversies regarding the ADRS in this BPL. Players such as Soumya Sarkar and Anamul Haque have already argued with the umpire over the technology. Although, the BCB has said that DRS will be available from the knockouts.
