Ahead of the Joburg Super Kings' first match of the ongoing SA20 league against Durban Super Giants, skipper Faf du Plessis expressed his excitement to don the yellow jersey once again.

The start of the inaugural edition of SA20 marks the second stint in yellow for the former South African skipper after having been involved with the parent franchise in the past.

Notably, du Plessis represented the four-time IPL champions- Chennai Super Kings in 100 matches before being released ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

Faf was roped in by Joburg Super Kings for a price of $375,000. The team management decided to appoint him as the captain given his exemplary record as captain in the 20-over format. He will lead a team full of T20 superstars like Moeen Ali, Lewis Gregory, Romario Shepherd, George Garton, and Reeza Hendricks.

Speaking at the captain’s press conference on Saturday, the 38-year-old said he is happy to be back with the Super Kings franchise. He further said that the tournament offers a great opportunity for young players to showcase their talent.

“Nice kit, back in yellow for me. A team that I played for a long time in the IPL. And I think, all of us are excited about a new tournament starting in South Africa. It’s an opportunity for the young South African players to rub shoulders with the likes of Stephen Fleming, Eric Simmons, up there with the best coaches in the game,"  said Faf Du Plessis in the press conference.

Du Plessis will lead the Joburg Super Kings in their season opener against the Durban Super Giants at Kingsmead in Durban on Wednesday, January 11.
