Sunil Gavaskar lambasts Indian bowlers for their horror show in the second T20I

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has criticized the Indian bowling attack with some fairly audacious statements after India lost the second T20I by 16 runs in Pune to square the three-match T20I series 1-1.

Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka led the way with a sparkling half-century and two crucial wickets in the last over of the game to script a memorable series-levelling win over India in the second T20I on Thursday.

The Men in Blue fought valiantly with the bat in the second innings but it wasn't enough for them to cross the line.

One of the big reasons behind India's defeat was the number of extras given by the Indian bowlers. Indian bowlers bowled as many as 7 no-balls in the fixture, out of which five were bowled by Arshdeep Singh. Apart from Arshdeep, Shivam Mavi and Umran Malik also bowled one no-ball each. India conceded plenty of runs through no balls which made the difference at the end.

During a post-match discussion on Star Sports, Gavaskar lashed out at the Indian pacers for bowling seven no-balls against Sri Lanka, saying they can’t be doing this as professional cricketers.

“As a professional, you can't be doing this. We often hear that today's players say, things aren't in our control. Not bowling no ball is in your control. What happens after you deliver the ball, what the batsman does, is another thing. Not bowling a no ball is definitely in your control,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

India squandered a golden chance to seal the series in the second T20I. Sri Lanka’s victory in the second T20I sets up the series with one game to play in Rajkot on Saturday, January 7.
