South Africa's batting coach, Justin Sammons has insisted that his side will take a positive approach in the second innings in order to save the Test match.

Persistent rain meant that no play was possible on Day 3, but Australia are still in a commanding position. They are currently on 475-4 in the first innings, with Usman Khawaja batting at 195, five runs shy of his maiden Test double century.

South Africa have had a poor outing Down Under, having already lost the first two Tests by huge margins and currently stuttering in the SCG Test as well.

Samson stated that the Proteas want to get out on the ground and save the match in the next two days, instead of watching the rain fall.

"It obviously has been a tough tour but the players are looking forward to the challenge of saving the game," Sammons told reporters after the game was abandoned on Day 3.

"You don't improve by sitting in the dressing room on a rainy day. It is important for this group that they embrace those challenges and look forward to it because that's what Test cricket is about and that is how you are going to get better," he added.

With two days (if the rain doesn't interrupt), South Africa will have a monumental task on their hands to salvage the Test match.
