Michael Neser’s boundary catch became the highlight of the high-scoring BBL 2022-23 affair between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers. The cricketer completed the catch by multiple well-timed jumps outside the boundary rope during the penultimate over of Brisbane Heat’s 15-run win against their hosts.
The moment evoked much debate from the cricketing world, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) also giving their stance on the matter.

ICC gives clean chit to Michael Neser
A day after the Neser incident, the ICC explained his juggling effort at the boundary line. The apex body took the cricketer’s initial contact with the ball in accordance with the timing of his jump before giving a detailed explanation.
“A fielder who is not in contact with the ground is considered to be grounded beyond the boundary if his/her final contact with the ground, before his/her first contact with the ball after it has been delivered by the bowler, was not entirely within the boundary.”
The ICC further added that in Neser’s case, the Sixers’ batter Jordan Silk was rightfully given out because the fielder’s jump and eventual catch all occurred within the laws of the game.
