One of the many reasons behind India's humiliating defeat in the first Test of the England tour at Headingley was their low catching efficiency. The most talked about name for having butter fingers was Yashasvi Jaiswal. The young left-handed opener dropped four catches in the match and allowed the respective batters to leave a long-lasting effect on the game.
Jaiswal Gets Removed From The Slip Cordon
Now, as it appears, the Indian management has decided to remove him from the slip cordon. In a picture of India's latest net session that is going viral on social media, Jaiswal is not seen in the slips. Notably, he was seen practising at a new position in Silly Point. Sai Sudharsan replaced Jaiswal in the cordon.
From a video posted by Gargi Raut, a journalist and representative of RevSportz on her X platform it appears, he has paid the penalty for dropping catches in the position and will, therefore, find himself in a new position during the next game. Although the new position will be as challenging as the slips, the Indian team will expect him to perform better here and achieve a higher catching efficiency.
Although there were complaints about his catching, nothing could be said about the way Yashasvi batted in the game. In the first innings of the match, Jaiswal laid the foundation of the total India scored with his aggressive style of play. Notably, the Southpaw scored a brilliant 101 runs off 158 deliveries and shone in his first outing in English conditions.
India Looks To Script A Dramatic Comeback In The Series
The Indian team, under their new leader, Shubman Gill, will be looking to script a comeback in the series starting from the Edgbaston Test starting on 2nd July. To startle the home team with their performance, India will need to show discipline in all the departments. But after the display in the first match, one must feel that the fielding of the Indian team needs to be worked on the most.
While the team management hopes that the Southpaw continues his batting form, they will be looking at the improvement of Jaiswal, the fielder.
