In an interesting move outside the world of cricket, MS Dhoni has decided to make the name of Captain Cool his own now. The legendary Indian cricketer submitted his application to Trademark 'CAPTAIN COOL' on June 5, which effectively grants him the exclusive right to use the name for ventures like training centres, sports training and coaching services.

The development has been reported by India Today, and according to them, the application has been accepted and advertised by the Trade Marks Registry Portal. It further adds that the trademark was published in the official trademark journal on June 16, 2025.

Thus, Dhoni has joined Cristiano Ronaldo, who has done the same with CR7. Michael Jordan has also trademarked his 'Jumpman' logo, while Sourav Ganguly uses his nickname, 'Dada'.

MS Dhoni's Lawyer Fights Hurdles To Seal His Legacy In Ink

Dhoni's lawyer, Mansi Aggarwal, has also confirmed Dhoni's move for a trademark. Reportedly, the cricketer's application faced an objection initially under Section 11(1) of the Trade Mark's Act. The registry has raised concerns about an already-existing mark with a similar name.

“Delighted to share a recent development from the field of trademark law that underscores the evolving role of personality rights and acquired distinctiveness in overcoming relative grounds for refusal,” said Dhoni’s lawyer, Mansi Aggarwal, as quoted by India Today.

However, Dhoni's lawyer managed to convince the decision-makers about the uniqueness of Dhoni's 'CAPTAIN COOL' name. The Indian cricketer's application for the trademark was due to the recognition he has gained in the world of cricket due to his leadership skills.

MS Dhoni first came to be recognised as Captain Cool when he guided a young Indian team to the T20 World Cup trophy in 2007. He then went on to win the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy 2013 as captain, too, and is one of India's finest captains.
