Top 5 Bowling Spells of ODI cricket in 2022

When we speak of cricket, we often glorify batting more than bowling. But bowling is a trade which plays the most crucial role in case of winning matches. 

In order to justify the role of bowlers in ODI format of cricket, here we will take a look at the bets bowling spells of 2022.

5. Shakib Al Hasan - 5 for 36 (10 Overs) vs India, December 4, 2022

India and Bangladesh were facing off in the first of the three match ODI series at Mirpur, Dhaka. On a slowish track the hosts won the toss and decided to field first.

The Indian batters were strangled by Shakib Al Hasan as he ran through a formidable batting order. In his 10 overs he conceded just 36 runs and picked up five  wickets. Shakib was ably aided by Ebadot Hossain who picked up four wickets and restricted India to a total of just 186 runs. 

In the chase, Bangladesh were nearly put out of the contest but Mehidy Hasan Miraz's calm and composed innings under pressure took them to a memorable one wicket win. Although Mehidy Hasan's effort was unreal, the match was was set up for Bangladesh by the brilliant bowling spell of Shakib Al Hasan.

4. Hardik Pandya - 4 for 24 (7 Overs) vs England, July 17, 2022

In the decider of the three match ODI series, India won the toss and elected to field first. While the hosts were going good in the middle phase of their batting effort, Hardik Pandya had other plans.

He came to bowl and picked up some very important wickets in the form of Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone. In his seven overs Hardik conceded just 24 runs and it was this spell that helped India restrict England to a moderate total of 259 runs in the 50 overs. 

Even during the chase, Hardik played a very vital knock of 71 runs to support Rishabh Pant (125*) in taking India to a memorable series win. 

3. Ryan Burl - 5 for 10 (3 Overs) vs Australia, September 3, 2022

It was the third and last match of the ODI series. Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to field first in the match. 

Australia was struck by a sudden thunder in the form of Ryan Burl. He picked up five wickets conceding 10 runs in just three overs. Even David Warner (94 off 96) who was the only resistance for the hosts was dismissed by him.

Burl's heroics ensured that Australia was bundled out for just 141 runs in 31 overs. In the chase, Zimbabwe lost seven wickets but was able to chase down the target in 39 overs. It was remarkable feat for Zimbabwe to defeat the Aussies in their home soil and was made a reality because of Burl's brilliant bowling spell. 

2. Reece Topley - 6 for 24 (9.5 Overs) vs India, July 14, 2022

In the second match of the ODI series against India it was essential for England to win the match as they were completely outplayed in the previous clash.

India won the toss and courtesy of a good bowling effort restricted the hosts to 246 runs. During India's chase, Reece Topley destroyed the formidable Indian batting order. He struck at the Indian top order and picked up six important wickets for just 24 runs. 

The Indians were bundled out for juts 146 runs and England won the match by 100 runs, keeping them in the series. Topley's performance once again showed the vulnerability of the India batting against left-arm pacers. 

1.Jasprit Bumrah - 6 for 19 (7.2 Overs) vs England, July 12, 2022

India announced themselves in style in the ODI series against England. In the very first match the visitors won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Jasprit Bumrah brought down hell on the English batters and went through the batting order. In 7.2 overs he picked up six wickets conceding just 19 runs. It was his efforts that restricted England to just 110 runs in 25.2 overs. 

India chased down the target pretty comfortably without losing a single wicket in just 18.4 overs.
