On Wednesday, stylish batter Tom Latham scripted history, recording the most number of centuries by a New Zealand opener in Test cricket.

Latham added a mammoth 183-run opening stand with Devon Conway and hammered a flamboyant 191-ball 113, ensuring a gigantic first-inning total for the visitors.

In the aftermath of his incredible knock, the southpaw revealed how they had researched and planned to neutralise Pakistani spin sensation Abrar Ahmed on the dusty Karachi deck.

Here's what Latham stated

"Yeah, I think leading into the series, we need to see how the games went along on that particular pitch. Scouting is always done before a series. To learn what kind of deliveries he (Abrar Ahmed) bowls, we watched clips and conducted a research. He did a good job of bowling, and the wicket began to spin and bounce a little more,

"Regardless of the wicket, the rough is present. I just tried to adjust as much as I could. The pitch started to show a bit more tricks, and hence we needed to be aware of those and get prepared well. It was all about playing with smartness. You know that the ball would turn from the rough. So, instead of going against the turn, it was about to play with the spin. Sweep shot has given more productivity, and hence I opted for it."

Regarding the game, New Zealand are steadily edging past Pakistan, as they seem determined to gain a substantial first-inning lead. As of writing the Blackcaps are well-placed at 470 for six, with Kane Williamson and Ish Sodhi batting on 121* and 16*, respectively.
