England's rise in white-ball cricket has been phenomenal ever since 2016. After clinching the 50-overs World Cup in 2019, England won their second T20 World Cup on Sunday, beating Pakistan by five wickets.

This rise has been attributed to the introduction of fearless cricketers within the system. One of the best examples is former skipper Joe Root, who struggles to find a spot in the 20-overs side, despite being England's prime batter in Tests.

Many teams are facing similar selections issues with several old-timers playing T20 cricket. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has praised the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) selection policy.

According to India Today, the opener stated that no Root in England's T20I setup is one of the main reasons behind their recent success.

"England's selection policy is the point of difference. Joe Root - who is a legend in Test match cricket does not get a chance to play in T20Is. If they see that their Test match batters cannot play in their T20I template, they simply do not select them.

Joe Root is one of the best batters in the world, one of fab four, but he still does not find a place in the white ball team,"

England have introduced a lot young batter in their T20 system, with the likes of Harry Brook, Phil Salt, George Garton, Tom Banton, and Will Jacks earning call-ups over the past few years.
