Michael Hogan has done a 'Shahid Afridi' by taking back his retirement after leaving cricket at the end of the 2022 England Country season. Hogan, 41, has inked a one-year deal with Kent County Cricket Club (KCCC).

Hogan played for Glamorgan County Cricket Club (GCCC) for 10 years, claiming 654 wickets across formats, and ended his final season with the Welsh side as their leading wicket-taker in the County Championship 2022 and T20 Blast.

The Australian-born, who holds a British passport, captained the Glamorgan side for one year between 2017 and 2018.

Talking about his U-turn from retirement, Hogan said that Kent provided him a 'fresh challenge'.

"After 10 memorable seasons with Glamorgan the opportunity to play for Kent in Division One of the Championship, and to also cut my teeth mentoring in a new environment, is an exciting one.

I had fully planned to retire, but then the opportunity to play for another year and gain some coaching and mentoring experience in another environment came up out of the blue, and it was one I couldn't turn down."

Apart from playing, Hogan will also be involved in a coaching role with the club, during their Royal London Cup-title defence.
