England square-off against Sri Lanka in Sydney in their Super 12 stage Group 1 must-win encounter on Saturday. Precariously placed second in the table, England's chances of qualifying for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semi-finals will also depend on the fate of defending champions Australia, who take on Afghanistan today.

The 50-overs champions lost to Ireland in a rain-truncated match and had their crucial game against rivals Australia get abandoned due to rain.

Fast bowler Chris Woakes, on the eve of the match, talked about England's sole focus being able to win the game and not ponder about other scenarios. Speaking with metro.co.uk, Woakes stated that in the T20 WC, any team could beat any team, and they are not taking Sri Lanka lightly.

"We don’t go through if we don’t win this game, two points is the most important thing – I think we all realise that. You can look at net run-rates all you like but if the points are not there, it is irrelevant. I think we are fully focused on the fact Sri Lanka will be a tough challenge,

"We have already seen in this tournament and experienced ourselves that if you are not quite on your game a team will take advantage of that and can easily knock you over."

Woakes further echoed skipper Jos Buttler's earlier statement that England team does not feel entitled to win/lift the World Cup because they have a good side.
