What if... India win the T20 World Cup?

When a young Indian team toured South Africa to participate in the T20 World Cup in 2007, very few people, including the Indian fans, had expected them to lift the trophy. However, contradicting every speculation, MS Dhoni's troops exhibited an extraordinary show to shell-shock an experienced Pakistani outfit, emerging victorious on the night of the final in Johannesburg.

However, winning the mercurial trophy has been a dream for the Men in Blue since then. Despite entering the tournament with the 'favourites' tag, they have faltered multiple times in the knockouts.

On the contrary, this time, India have been tagged as the 'underdogs' of the tournament. The reason is pretty straightforward; they don't have Jasprit Bumrah, and some of their key players are struggling with form and fitness.

But as they say, cricket is a game of uncertainty, so we shouldn't completely rule out India's chances of winning the trophy.

So, let's imagine, what if India win the World Cup?

Virat Kohli will get what he deserves

845 runs at a magnificent average of 76.81 and a strike of 129.60, innumerable impactful knocks, including a few in the knockouts; Virat Kohli has done everything right to get a hand to the T20 World Cup. But alas! His destiny hasn't been kind to him in this regard. Despite being one of the most impactful T20 players of this generation, he has won neither the World Cup nor the IPL in his illustrious career.

So, if India win this time, Kohli's dream of lifting the World Cup will be fulfilled. He is the one who deserves it the most, especially after what he has done for the Indian team in the World Cups over the years.

Rohit Sharma will silence his critics

After Virat Kohli decided to step down as India's T20I captain, his deputy Rohit Sharma became an automatic choice to be his successor. Moreover, considering his astsuccess as the skipper of the iconic Mumbai Indians, most of the fans and experts reckoned Rohit to be the ideal candidate for the role.

However, some critics always find a way to question Rohit's credentials as a T20 captain. As per them, a captain is as good as his team; therefore, Rohit's success for MI can be credited to the kind of line-up they have had over the years. Thus, despite showcasing his incredible leadership attributes, Rohit has somehow failed to build a legacy as a captain.

But if India win the World Cup against all odds, fans will have to place Rohit Sharma among the greatest T20 skippers of all time. His legacy will truly be built, which he absolutely deserves for being an astute tactician.

It will be India's first ICC title on Australian soil

From the Commonwealth Bank Tri-series to the BGT 2021, Australian soil has always been kind to a spirited Indian team. This time, too, they have lost some of their mainstays to injury. Therefore, they will have to push themselves up to win the title. But if they somehow manage to do so, this will be their first-ever ICC trophy on Australian soil. Also, India will be the first country to win a T20 World Cup twice outside the subcontinent.

Additionally, this victory will bring a sigh of relief to the Indian fans. They have been unable to celebrate since the triumphant Champions Trophy campaign in 2013. Their team has appeared in five knockout games, losing all of them. So, if the Men in Blue break the jinx this time, it will bring joy to the billions of faces who have stood firmly beside their beloved team during its highs and lows.
