In a latest development, Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal has resigned from his post as president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) following multiple illegal activities levelled against him.

According to news agency PTI, Inder Singh Chahal, who became the President of PCA in May 2022, confirmed that he has relinquished the position. This development comes a week after former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh sent a letter to the PCA apex council, alleging multiple malpractices by the Chahal-led dispensation.

Here's a crux of Harbhajan Singh's letter to PCA:

"The crux of the matter is PCA is trying hard to induct 150 members with voting rights to tilt the balance in their favour and these inductions are being done without assent of apex council/general body or without consulting the Chief Advisor (Singh)."

What are the charges levied by Harbhajan Singh on Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal?

In his letter, Harbhajan Singh, who is a Chief Advisor to the PCA, alleged that Chahal violated the BCCI constitution by enrolling illegal voter members without the consent of the Apex council.

The former off-spinner also alleged that Chahal appointed his personal chartered firm as the official auditor of PCA, which is a classic case of 'conflict of interest'.

Chahal has also been accused of selling the tickets of the recent India vs Australia T20I held in Mohali.

Following his resignation, Harbhajan said to PTI:

"I was very sure that if there is any corruption or bad governance happening in PCA, I will not tolerate that. Under my watch, there shouldn't be any corruption or high handedness."

In addition to this, Chahal's father, retired DG Harender, used the stadium facilities for evening walks, before senior curator Daljeet Singh confronted him.

Chahal then proceeded to bar Singh from entering the premises before revoking the ban later.
