The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume on Saturday as the league was suspended due to the conflicts between India and Pakistan. The opening match after resumption will take place between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkat knight Riders (KKR).
Injury setback for RCB in the form of Patidar
However, the RCB side, even before the resumption have suffered a massive injury jolt in the form of their skipper, Rajat Patidar. As per Indian Express, his finger injury is taking a long time to recover and he could miss out on a place in the India A squad for the England tour.
Also, he could miss the initial few IPL matches after resumption as the captain has been advised to wear a splint to protect his injured finger. Given that his finger needs time to heal, there is a chance that he could miss few matches but if RCB qualify for the playoffs, there is a chance that the batter could make a return.
Who could captain RCB if Patidar misses few matches?
If Patidar misses few matches or gets ruled out, RCB need to find a new skipper and the obvious choice would be Virat Kohli. He led RCB till the 2021 season and at this point, his experience will be crucial for the team.
If not Kohli, RCB can also go towards Jitesh Sharma, who was set to lead the team against LSG, but the tournament got suspended. He was the PBKS vice captain last season and will be an interesting choice as well.
