Middlesex County Cricket Club (MCCC) are likely to sign former Ireland international Tim Murtagh on a one-year deal, extending his stay until 2023. Murtagh’s current contract ended this season, which was also an extension from his 2021 association.

The paceman moved to Middlesex from Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC) back in 2007, having made his First-Class debut in 2000.

The 41-year-old guided Middlesex County to promotion in Division one from Division two, after helping the side finish second in the points table with six wins, two losses, and six draws this season.

In the 2022 County Championship season, he appeared in 10 matches and took 30 wickets, to end up as the second-highest wicket-taker for Middlesex behind Toby Roland-Jones (67).

Speaking to Middlesex's YouTube channel, Murtagh confirmed meetings taking place behind closed doors about his extension.

"A couple of days ago, basically [they] said we'd like you back next year. I've always said I want to keep playing as long as I can and as long as I'm enjoying it and as long as the club are enjoying it. We'll sit down over the next couple of weeks and we'll work it all out."

Overall, in 208 FC games for Middlesex, Murtagh has 813 wickets.

For Ireland, the former England Under-19 player, appeared in three Tests, 58 ODIs, and 14 T20Is, scalping 100 wickets between 2012 and 2019.
