Tabraiz Shamsi has established himself as the premium spinner in South Africa’s set-up in the shortest format of the game. With some sensational performances under his belt in the past few years, he is occupying second place in the ICC T20I bowlers rankings.

Shamsi was also the second player to be picked by Paarl Royals for a whopping R4.3 million in the SA 20 auction last week. The left-arm wrist spinner is extremely delighted to be provided with the opportunity. He is hoping for the T20 tournament will revolutionise the South African cricket fraternity just like the Indian Premier League did for India.

Though Shamsi is happy to be picked in the auction, his prime focus is to play for South Africa and take them to victory in the T20I World Cup, scheduled in Australia from next month. The bowler is also hoping for a good time for the Proteas during the tour to India.

The spinner is hopeful of a good series

They are traveling to India for a three-match T20I series followed by three One Day Internationals. South Africa last toured India in June for a five-match T20I series that ended in a draw.

Speaking in the press conference, the spinner said:

"The same like the IPL has changed the landscape for Indian cricket it can for South Africa. It is going to give opportunities to players to be seen overseas and for them to showcase their skills on another level.

"But for me personally right now, my focus is on the World Cup and this India tour. The last time we were here we drew the series 2-2. It is always a good challenge against India. It is going to be a good series. I love coming to India and performing here and I will be trying my best."

Shamsi speaks about his poor performance against India

Shamsi did not enjoy an ideal run against India the last time. The wrist-spinner was completely out of the rhythm as he conceded an embarrassing 104 runs in four games at an economy rate of 10.2. He could also manage just one wicket. Following the poor performance, the bowler was dropped from the fifth T20I International.

However, he is not going to let the poor performance from the past dampen his spirits. He is coming after a great performance against England and is hoping to continue the momentum. In the three-match T20I series against Englishmen, Shamsi finished as the top wicket-taker with eight wickets at an average of 12.50.

"I don't think anything changed much. There were just a few balls that were not executed properly. I am not too worried. I was happy with my personal performances.”
