Records shatter every time batting maverick Virat Kohli comes out to bat. The 33-year-old has already broken tons of records which were once held by batting demigods in world cricket.

The run-machine was at it again on Sunday (September 25) as he eclipsed former India batter Rahul Dravid’s tally to become the second leading run-scorer of all time in international cricket for India.

Kohli, once again geared up for the team when it mattered most and took the Australian bowlers to cleaners in Hyderabad to help India secure a series-winning six-wicket victory over the visitors.

Kohli bludgeoned 63 runs from 48 balls and in the process, he took his tally to 24,078 runs – 14 runs more than Rahul Dravid's tally of 24,064, which he achieved in 404 matches.

In the tally of the most runs scored for team India, the number one spot is occupied by the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who has amassed 34,357 runs for team India in his illustrious international cricket career.

Most runs for India in international cricket

  • Sachin Tendulkar: 34,357 runs in 664 matches
  • Virat Kohli: 24,078 runs in 471 matches
  • Rahul Dravid: 24,064 runs in 404 matches
  • Sourav Ganguly: 18,433 runs in 421 matches
  • MS Dhoni: 17,092 in 535 matches

Overall, Kohli is still lagging behind batting legends – Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardena, and Jacques Kallis in terms of runs scored at the international level.

Earlier, Virat Kohli ended his century drought with his maiden T20I hundred against Afghanistan in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022.

Following another batting brilliance against the defending T20I World Champions, the former skipper has conveyed a loud and clear message to the cricket world, of him returning to form ahead of the showpiece event Down Under.
