In a latest development, Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) is all set to part ways with 'Director of Cricket' Tom Moody.

According to a report published in Sri Lankan daily 'Sunday Times', the board has decided to relieve the former Australian all-rounder from his duties despite the fact that he still has 1.5 years to go as per his current contract.

Moody, who has previously served as Sri Lanka's men's team head coach between 2005-07, was hired by the Aravinda de Silva-led Technical Advisory Committee for a three-year-stint in March last year.

Moody's role involved spending at least 300 days in the island nation to overlook the entire cricket system in Sri Lanka. He was paid $2000 for every he spent in the country, in addition to other perks which included accommodation in a five-star hotel.

But, with Lanka's performance improving across all formats in the past 6-8 months, SLC believes that it is better to release Moody and give the charge to consultant Coach and former skipper, Mahela Jayawardene.

The board is set to compensate Moody with US$45,000 for pulling out of the contract prematurely.

Here's what a source close to SLC told 'The Sunday Times'

"We will have to compensate him for early termination but even that’s a better option than keeping him for further one-and-a-half years,” sources said, on the condition of anonymity.

He's done a fantastic job: SLC on Jayawardene

The decision to retain Mahela Jayawardene by the SLC has raised eyebrows as the former Mumbai Indians coach has been elevated to a global leadership role by the IPL franchise.

However, SLC is pleased with Jayawardene's performance as consultant coach, and it has no qualms with the former cricket assuming the role of 'Global Head of Performance' at MI.

''As the consultant coach, he is doing a fantastic job behind the scene. A lot of credit should go to him for the work. Today, it’s not only the national team that is performing but also all other teams at various age group levels,” said Silva.

"We have no problem with his new role with Mumbai Indians. He will continue to support our cricketers,” he added.

Sri Lankan cricket is in the midst of a resurgence after having won an ODI series against Australia, drawn Test series with Pakistan and Australia before winning the Asia Cup earlier this month.
