According to emerging reports, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli has stood firm on his Test retirement despite the BCCI's attempts to persuade him for a reversal in his decision. The development comes days before India's official meeting regarding the selection of the squad for the England tour.

Virat Kohli Firm On Retirement Plans Despite BCCI's Request

Talismanic Indian cricketer Virat Kohli informed the BCCI selection committee about his Test retirement plans two weeks ago. However, considering senior batter Rohit Sharma has retired, the BCCI wants Kohli to play and ensure an experienced middle-order in the England Tests.

In 123 Tests, Kohli has struck 9230 runs, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, at an average of 46.85.

Having said that, the latest report by TOI claims that Kohli stands firm on his decision to bid adieu to the purest format.

"Kohli had informed the selectors two weeks ago (about his desire to quit Tests). They were trying to persuade him to play in the Test series against England. However, he is still firm on his stance. The final call will come close to the selection meeting next week," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

India Squad For England Tour: What Do We Know So Far?

According to the latest report, the Indian squad for the England tour will be picked around the 3rd week of this month. But before that, the India-A squad for the unofficial Tests against England Lions will be announced.

Apart from holding talks with Kohli to get a final call on his retirement, the BCCI will conduct a press conference to unveil India's next Test captain. If reports are to be believed, the cricketing body plans to appoint Shubman Gill as Rohit Sharma's successor.
