They were better than us: Proteas' batting coach brings out the problem

After a steep batting collapse in the first innings, where the South African side was bowled out for 118, England managed to end the third day's play with 154 for the loss of seven wickets on the board.

As many as nine Proteas' batters fell to Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson, with the highest score for the side coming from Marco Jansen, who scored a gritty 30. All this after the first two days' play was called off due to rain and Queen Elizabeth II's death, respectively.

With the match on a tightrope for both sides, Africa's batting coach Justin Sammons has commented on his team's performance in the ongoing Test.

Sammons credits the English team's execution

With the conditions looking difficult, the Three Lions asserted dominance with their approach. Sammons was all praise for the opposition after they bowled pretty well, according to him. He said,

"The reality is we also have to give the opposition credit — they bowled really well and got the ball in the right areas probably 80% of the time and continually asked questions of us,

"We didn't necessarily give our wickets away through mental errors — at the end of the day, it came down to execution, and they were just better than us,"

He also believes that situations like this will only help his side get better with experience.

"That change room will only get stronger from experiences like this."

The first Test was won by South Africa where they defeated England by an innings and 12 runs at Lord's, whereas in the second Test, the English side returned the favour with a sweet victory by an innings and 85 runs.

The fourth day's play of the third Test is expected to be another day of roller coaster ride, with the home side leading by 36 runs.
