Rohit Sharma calls for Hardik Pandya's calmness and confidence

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma thinks the calmness and confidence helped Hardik Pandya to seal a cliffhanger against Pakistan on Sunday(28 August) in Dubai.

It was a good effort from the Indian bowling unit to restrict Pakistan to a total of 147, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking four wickets. Pandya delivered well to finish with figures of 3/25 in four overs.

Sharma (12) and KL Rahul (0) could not provide a substantial contribution at the top. However, Virat Kohli contributed 35 to lay a platform for the middle-order.

Afterwards, Ravindra Jadeja and Pandya steered the team at an asking rate against the quality Pakistan attack. The ice-cool duo took the game deep and accelerated in the final five overs.

They added 52 for the fifth wicket before Jadeja was bowled in the final over. Then, Pandya won the game for India in an emphatic fashion with a six towards the long-on area.

The 28-year-old remained unbeaten on 33 off 17, with four fours and a single six.

In this regard, the skipper thinks Pandya has made a strong comeback to contribute in both departments after recovering from the injury.

"Since the time he (Hardik) has made his comeback, he's been brilliant. When he was not part of the team, he figured what he needs to do to his body and his fitness regime, and now he is clocking 140+ easily," said Sharma.

"His batting quality we all know and it's been brilliant since his comeback. He is a lot calmer now and more confident about what he wants to do, whether it's with the bat or with the ball. He can bowl really quick, we saw that today with those short balls."
