The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Tuesday (August 23) confirmed that the former Bermudian cricketer David Hemp isn't interested in extending his two-year contract as head coach of Pakistan women's cricket team.

Hemp's contract will expire in the upcoming month of October and the Pakistan Cricket Board will soon announce his replacement.

The 51-year-old has cited his intentions to spend more time with his family as a reason behind his decision on giving up on his coaching duties.

“I have enjoyed living in Pakistan and working with the women cricketers, but it has also been difficult on me and my young family as I have been unable to spend enough time with them like any other father."

"After consulting my family, I have conveyed this difficult decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board, which has very graciously understood my situation and accepted my decision."

Pakistan Women's terrible outing in CWG 2022

Hemp, the Australia-based cricketer was the second foreigner roped in by the PCB to take charge of the women's cricket team after New Zealander Mark Coles, who had a two-year tenure with Women in Green, resigned in October 2019.

Under Hemp's guidance, Pakistan Women failed to win a single game in the recent concluded 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Bismah Maroof-led side also lost the tri-series involving Australia and Ireland earlier this year.

David Hemp Expresses Gratitude

The former Glamorgan captain, who took over the coaching duties of Pakistan Women back in 2020, expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board for their relentless support to him throughout his tenure.

“I want to thank everyone at the Pakistan Cricket Board, women’s wing and the entire side who not only backed and supported me but also made my stay memorable and comfortable.

"I will remain a big fan of Pakistan women’s cricket, will continue to follow their progress with excitement and remain confident that better results and successes await them down the road.”

Pakistan Women's next assignment is against Ireland Women in November later this year, where the two teams will lock horns in three ODIs and as many T20Is.
