In a game where more sixes were hit than fours, Birmingham demonstrated their power-hitting range to get past the Invincibles by 10 runs.

The Oval-based side won the toss and asked the Phoenix to come and bat first. With the wicket looking decent to bat on, opening batters Will Smeed (23) and Miles Hammond (17) lashed out on the opportunity to provide a quick-fire start smashing two sixes each.

When both of them were in the pavilion, skipper Moeen Ali and big-hitting Liam Livingstone took the matter into their hands to stitch a 69-run partnership consisting of eight sixes, four each to score 42 and 45 runs, respectively. Ali departed when the score was 110, but the Livingstone show continued till the 86th delivery when he had to leave with the scorecard showing 145/4.

The final touch was provided by Aussie keeper Matthew Wade helped his side reach 166 after the end of their innings. Matt Milnes and Sunil Narine took three and two wickets correlatively.

Phoenix's bowlers up to the task

Chasing 167 for the victory, Invincibles lost two early wickets in the form of Will Jacks (4) and Rilee Rossouw (5) to leave their side reeling at 11/2. However, incoming batter Jordan Cox (32) and opener Jason Roy (21) did give the required momentum to take their side to 52 when the latter flourished.

After the wicket of Cox, the Curran brothers Sam and Tom also provided some much-needed hope to their side, which helped them to stay in the game. 

Although Oval tried their best but were found short by just 10 runs, thanks to a valiant effort from Tom Helm, who bowled brilliantly to claim figures of 3/11 and Kane Richardson grabbing 3/22 to put brakes on the opponents' innings.
