Glenn Maxwell eager to make a full-time comeback into the Australian Test set-up

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has made his Test ambitions very clear as he aims to make a return to the longest format of the game.

Maxwell was last seen wearing the Baggy Green in 2017 against Bangladesh. While the last Test series versus Sri Lanka presented a real possibility for the veteran to feature in the Test outfit for the first time in nearly five years, he could not make the XI even after joining the squad.

Maxwell aspires Test re-call

As the Aussie put it, he is expected to play two Sheffield Shield games for Victoria in November-December this year, before he shifts focus to the Big Bash League 2022-23.

Maxwell sees this as an opportunity to put some first-class action under his belt. He further wished to be a part of the team's Test contingent after this summer ends.

"It's exciting, I haven't played (first-class cricket) since 2019. I did actually have a look at the schedule properly yesterday and I think I'm going to be available for a couple of Shield games before the Big Bash. It's nice to have that to look forward to and potentially get some red-ball cricket finally," Maxwell said as quoted to cricket.com.au.

"It's been a long time and having that taste of just being in the Test squad was so exciting and reinvigorated and reminded myself of where I want to be. It's something that I've made no secret about, that I really want to play Test cricket again and I'm just hoping by the end of the summer hopefully I can be somewhere around that Test squad," he added.

Eyes set on India series

With the India-Australia red-ball series scheduled in early 2023, the 33-year-old concentrated on his experience of playing in the subcontinent nation.

Maxwell so far has made seven Test appearances for Australia and his only century in the format has come while playing against India in 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His success in India can certainly put him back in the reckoning for the tour, scheduled next year.
