The Hundred Women's 2022, OI vs BP: Capsey, Winfield-Hill prove their worth as Invincibles demolish Phoenix

In a low-scoring encounter, Oval Invincibles cleans up Birmingham Phoenix thanks to an outstanding bowling effort from their bowlers.

Opting to bowl, Oval grabbed the first wicket of Phoenix skipper Sophie Devine on the score of 12. However, Evelyn Jones and Amy Jones tried to hold the innings for a while, but Alice Capsey had other plans in her mind.

She bowled brilliantly to record figures of 3/15, also adding Sophie Molineux to her tally. Ellyse Perry couldn't do much, diminishing for ten and her removal caused a flurry of wickets with the scorecard showing 77/6.

Emily Arlott (15) did aim to revive the innings, but it just wasn't enough as Phoenix crashed to 106/7 after their allotted 100 deliveries. All the bowlers except Shabnam Ismail scalped a wicket, but her economy rate was just too good to ignore, giving runs at 0.6 per ball.

Invincibles ace the chase

Looking at 107 for victory, Lauren Winfield-Hill and the Oval-based side took nothing for granted as they went for the target straightway. Lauren started the innings with Suzie Bates (17), who smacked four fours and departed when the team scored 25.

Capsey again took charge when Winfield-Hill was busy manoeuvring the field. She reached 20 and left when her side was on 63/2. Skipper Dane van Niekerk joined the opening batter, who was still at the crease. 

Requiring 44 more for victory, the duo took the side home with 13 balls to spare, Lauren scored 41 from 38 deliveries along with six fours and a six, while the captain played a solid and stable knock of 21 from 21 deliveries.
