  • Zim Vs Afg 2022 Ibrahim Zadrans Ton Douses Zimbabwe Visitors Clinch Series 2 0

ZIM vs AFG 2022 | Ibrahim Zadran’s ton douses Zimbabwe, visitors clinch series 2-0

Afghanistan trounced Zimbabwe by 8 wickets at the Harare Sports Club to go 2-0 up in the three-match ODI series on Monday, June 6. Ibrahim Zadran, a 20-year-old, crashed the hosts' party with a match-winning ton and celebrated his maiden international hundred with a 'Player of the Match' award.

Earlier in the match, the visiting captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to field first. The Zimbabweans lost their opener, Regis Chakabva, for a duck, but his partner, Innocent Kaia, at the other end, went on to score a solid 63.

Captain Craig Ervine contributed with 32 while middle-order batter Ryan Burl remained not out on 51. The hosts were eventually bundled out for 228 in exactly 50 overs.

Afghanistan's Farid Malik picked up 3-56 while speedster Fazalhaq Farooqi and spin machines Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi picked up two wickets each.

The visitors suffered one tiny setback by losing opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the third over of the innings. Zadran and number 3 batter Rahmat Shah ensured that the Zimbabweans would have to wait 38 overs for another wicket. The duo combined forces to chart a 195-run stand, and it turned out to be Afghanistan's all-time second highest partnership in away ODIs.

Apart from Zadran's 120*, Shah himself scored a healthy 88 before falling just short of the finishing line.

The two teams will now face each other at the same venue on June 9 for the third ODI before the action gets shifted to the truncated form of the game.

Brief scores:

Zimbabwe - 228 (50 overs)

Innocent Kaia 63 (74), Ryan Burl 51* (61);

Farid Malik 3/56, Mohammad Nabi 2-31

Afghanistan - 229-2 (44.3 overs)

Ibrahim Zadran 120* (141), Rahmat Shah 88 (112)

Donald Tiripano 1/32, Blessing Muzarabani 1-42

Afghanistan won by 8 wickets.

Nobody gives me a chance to explain my plan regarding my T20s: Tamim Iqbal

Talismanic Bangladesh left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal has taken a jibe at the BCB management and selection committee for not communicating with him regarding his T20I future. Iqbal, who pulled out of last year's T20 World Cup, took a six-month break from the shortest format back in January, and it is yet not clear whether he will be available for this year's marquee T20 event in Australia. "Nobody gives me a chance to explain my plan regarding my T20s. So either you [media] say it, or someone else tells it [regarding my T20's future] and let it move like this because I am not given any chance [by the board] to tell anything,'' Tamim told reporters, as quoted by Cricbuzz. ''I played for so long at least I deserve it, what I feel or think they should hear it from me. But either you [media] give some kind of notion or someone (board) else tells something. And as they say something I don't have anything to say,'' he added. His comments directly contrast what BCB's cricket operation chairman Jamal Yunus' told the media recently. Yunus suggested that the BCB has approached Tamim to speak to him about his T20 future and convince the batsman to make a return to the format. "Tamim Iqbal is one of the senior players on our side and he understands his position better than anyone else. You all know we had a meeting with him regarding this. He had told you [media] exclusively about his plan and now what we have to say. After completing the six months, he will officially tell you about his decision and you will know through him about his plan and I can't say anything about it," Jalal told the media recently. "We have tried during the last three to four months [to make a return] and he said that he had taken the decision considering his career and future and we pay full respect to that," he added. Recently, batting coach Jamie Siddons reckoned that Tamim could be an excellent option at No.4, something that the southpaw shrugged off vehemently. "What do you think? I should bat at number four or I should open?'' Tamim asked. ''About me batting four, I don't see any reason why should I bat at number four. I have been opening for 17 years and I have been doing quite well. So there is no chance (me batting at four),'' he signed off. Tamim has represented Bangladesh in 78 T20s, scoring 1500 runs at an average of 24.08 and a strike rate of 117. He last featured in the format back in 2020.

Nadine de Klerk aiming for a permanent place in South Africa Women's team

South Africa's young all-rounder Nadine de Klerk endured a major setback earlier this year when she failed to make it to the main squad for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2022. Nadine was a part of the Proteas squad as a reserve player alongside spinner Raisibe Ntozakhe and batter Andrie Steyn. In five years of international cricket so far, the all-rounder has represented South Africa Women in 16 One Day Internationals and 24 T20 Internationals, scoring 129 and 265 runs, respectively. She also has 15 ODI and 20 T20I wickets to her name. However, Nadine is yet to confirm a permanent place in the team, and she is often used as a substitute. The 22-year-old was gutted to miss the Women's World Cup games. However, she has now decided to divert her attention toward the coming leagues. "It's always hard facing those types of disappointments but at the end of the day, I have a massive passion for cricket, and I always want to work hard and become the best player I possibly can," De Klerk was quoted by Cricket South Africa's official website. "It was a setback, but you always just want to get back up and work harder. I am on my journey towards that and just really want to become the best cricketer I possibly can and maneuver my way back into the playing 11 and in the squad," she added. As De Klerk was a part of the Proteas World Cup squad as a reserve player, she watched all the games from the dugout. It was a new experience for the all-rounder to warm the bench throughout the tournament, as she labelled it as mentally challenging. Notably, South Africa was absolutely sensational during the league round as they defeated some of the strong teams, including England, India, and New Zealand. The team reached the playoffs by winning five of their eight league games. However, their campaign ended following a 137-run loss against England Women in the second semi-final. "It was a bit different. I have never experienced something like that before, but the girls played really great cricket and it was exciting just to be there as well, to watch them play was something really special; the way they took on some of the best in the world,” she said. "You obviously have your mental challenges; I was just trying to tell myself to stay up and about and always bring energy to the team, and try and motivate and cheer them on wherever I can. It was lovely to be there and support the girls," the all-rounder concluded. Further, the 22-year-old revealed her future goals. Nadine is hoping to get some good opportunities to showcase her talent to the selectors and file a strong case for the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games and ICC Women's T20 Cricket World Cup.
