To stake a claim on the three-game T20I series, India will be up against Sri Lanka tomorrow at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, and the exciting matchup will commence from 7.00 PM onwards.

India have their first win under head coach Gautam Gambhir’s reign as they trashed Sri Lanka in the first T20I with a 43-run win. Batting first, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal unleashed an onslaught to bring up a 70 run partnership in powerplay.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav picked the momentum to slam a blazing half century before Rishbah Pant added the finishing touch with 49 (33) knock to steer India to a 213 runs total.

Having said that, Sri Lanka had a strong start in the chase owing to Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis’ 84-run opening partnership. 

However, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel got breakthroughs at the right time to destroy Sri Lanka’s momentum. Riyan Parag wiped off the tail with a three-wicket-haul to wrap up a dominant victory for India.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, lost half the battle in the first innings itself as four of the six bowlers leaked 40+ runs in their respective four over spells which propelled India to a daunting 213 runs total.

While the openers kept them in the hunt until the powerplay of the chase, loss of wickets at regular intervals and lack of partnership in the middle order eventually cost them the game as they fell 43 runs short.

Of course, Sri Lanka were missing key pieces in the bowling department with Nuwan Thusara, Chameera and Binura Fernando ruled out. However, the team is still balanced and has the necessary firepower to fight a dominant side like India.

Notably, Sunday’s game will be a do-or-die for the hosts as the three-game series is at stake.
