Even without using the bat, Rohit Sharma's aura dominated the field at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

In the first T20 International for India’s full-strength team since Rohit Sharma's retirement and T20 World Cup 2024 victory, the chants of "Rohit, Rohit" echoed through the stands, which once again showed the lasting impact of the former Indian skipper.

"Rohit...Rohit" filled the stadium in India's convincing win vs Sri Lanka

Fans' vocal homage to Rohit was a viral sensation on social media, and it highlighted the incredible adoration he commands across the cricketing fraternity.

Meanwhile, the match itself, while marking a new chapter under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, was equally a spectacle of dominance and drama. India took a commanding lead in the three-match series with a robust 43-run victory.

The Indian openers set the stage ablaze early on. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill combined for a fiery start, amassing 74 runs in the powerplay overs. Their explosive partnership, however, met a swift disruption as both openers departed in quick succession, leaving India at 74-2.

Stepping into the role of captain, Suryakumar Yadav smashed a brisk 58 off just 26 balls. His innings, filled with audacious shots, was ended by a pinpoint yorker from Matheesha Pathirana.

Following Suryakumar's dismissal, Rishabh Pant took up the mantle of aggressor, propelling India past the 200-run mark with his 49-run blitz as India finished at a colossal 213-7.

Sri Lanka's response was spirited but ultimately fell short. Opener Pathum Nissanka's valiant 79 off 48 balls gave the hosts a glimmer of hope. However, after his dismissal, the Sri Lankan innings crumbled like a house of cards, culminating in a total of 170 all out.

India's bowlers, led by the young Riyan Parag with a stunning 3-5, clinched the victory as the visitors took a 1-0 lead.
