The Gautam Gambhir era with the Indian cricket team kickstarted with the ongoing T20I match between India and Sri Lanka at the Pallekelle Stadium.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. However, their decision backfired as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal went all guns blazing from the first ball.
Notably, the duo stitched a 74-run stand after the end of the powerplay, one of the highest. Jaiswal is known to hit the balls from the very first delivery, but the intent shown by Gill was something new.
The fans were impressed by Shubman's new approach in T20Is as he did not look to waste few balls and rather got out trying to dispatch the ball for a six despite getting one one the previous delivery.
Gill scored 34 (16) at a strike-rate of 212.5. Notably, Gill has often faced the scanner over his sstrike rateand slow approach in T20Is.
