In a scintillating display of batting brilliance, Suryakumar Yadav tied with the legendary Virat Kohli for the most Player of the Match awards in T20 International cricket.

The momentous occasion came after Yadav led India to a thumping 43-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Captaining India for the first time as a full-time T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav was a tour de force, smashing a rapid 58 runs off just 26 balls.

His innings, filled with eight boundaries and two sixes, carved through the Sri Lankan bowling attack like a hot knife through butter. His captaincy and bowling changes also played a crucial role, steering India towards taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Yadav's innings came to an end with a fiery yorker from Matheesha Pathirana, but not before he had set the stage for a substantial Indian total of 213-7.

Sri Lanka, despite a strong start by Pathum Nissanka, who scored 79 runs, crumbled after his dismissal, losing their last nine wickets for just 40 runs. The collapse handed India a commanding win, with Yadav's leadership at the forefront.

His performance earned him the Man of the Match award, marking his 16th in 69 T20I matches—tying with Virat Kohli's record in 125 matches.

With Kohli retired from T20Is, the path is clear for Yadav to forge ahead and set a new benchmark in the format.

As the SL vs IND series progresses, all eyes will be on Yadav as he looks to lead from the front and possibly eclipse an illustrious record set by one of cricket's greatest.
