In a shocking turn of events, Sri Lanka stunned India in the third ODI as they thrashed them by 110 runs in Colombo to register a 2-0 win in the series. Sri Lanka posted a total of 248/9 in their allotted 50 overs with an impactful contribution from Avishka Fernando.

In reply, India was bundled out for 138 with Dunith Wellalage scalped 5/27 in 5.1 overs.

Sri Lanka's victory marked a significant achievement, as it was their first series win against the 'Men in Blue' in 27 years. Interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya expressed immense pride in his team's performance during the post-match interview.

Jayasuriya credited the success to the team's hard work and the confidence instilled by the coaching staff and highlighted their ability to overcome challenges and deliver a historic series win.

"It was a very long wait because that series I played in 1997 and got a lot of runs in that series. That was the last series we won against India. After 27 years, I am part of the team and I am very happy to be part of these boys. They are a very nice bunch of players and are talented and the whole country would have seen what we can do. We have been working with players like Wellalage, Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Asalanka, all are very young players. Hasaranga got injured and Vandersay has been there for a long time but never got the opportunity and when we gave the opportunity, he grabbed it with both hands," the coach said.

Despite entering the series as underdogs due to a 3-0 loss in the T20I series in Kandy and facing numerous injuries in their attack, Sri Lanka showcased resilience.

The team demonstrated a remarkable improvement in their batting, particularly in the middle order, which had struggled in the T20I series.
