One of the greatest batters to have come out of New Zealand, Kane Williamson celebrates his 34th birthday today.

A class apart batter, Williamson, is not only one of the most prolific batter of modern times, but has also been an exceptional leader throughout his tenure. One of his prominent moment both as a batter and as a leader came during the World Test Championship (WTC) finals in 2021.

India, were the heavy favourites, heading into the finals in Southampton. However, a Williamson led inspired Kiwis produced their best cricket and outclassed the Indian team to win the maiden WTC title.

India were put into bat on a cloudy morning by Williamson. New Zealand opted for a four-men pace attack theory, and it worked to perfection as India were bundled out for a paltry 217. In reply, skipper Williamson stood tall and while the ball was still moving around, he played with grit and determination and scored a crucial 49 to help the Kiwis post 249 in their first innings.

India had a big opportunity to seize control of the match, but the Virat Kohli led side flunked and once again were decimated by the New Zealand pacers as they were knocked out for 170, meaning the Kiwis 139 to cement their legacy.

The path wasn't easy as R Ashwin jolted the opposition with an early wicket of Tom Latham. But this is where Williamson's brilliance came into play as he batted with immense maturity and absorbed the early pressure.

However, once the pitch eased out, he played his strokes and slammed an unbeaten 52 off 89 deliveries to give New Zealand the win, and their second ICC title.
