Team India were expected to take down a depleted Sri Lankan team with ease in the ODI series, however, the host nation sprung a surprise and defeated India 2-0 to win the series.

It was after 27-years that the Sri Lankan team has managed to beat India in a bilateral series, with the last win coming in 1997. The famed Indian batting unit disappointed as they lost 27 out of 30 wickets to the spinners, and looked clueless against the opposition bowlers.

Rohit speaks on his power-play batting approach

Barring skipper Rohit Sharma, every other batter struggled for runs as India failed to chase down targets in each of the three matches. After the humiliating series defeat, Rohit Sharma lashed out at his batters, while stating that batting was the disappointing aspect of the series.

Rohit, who scored 58, 64 and 35 in the three ODIs, stuck with his aggressive style of play at the top and gave his reasoning behind the approach.

"I felt that the runs that will be made in power play will be very important so as a batsman, you have to take those chances. I took those chances whenever I felt that I can put pressure on the bowler. Whatever runs you make from the top, the team benefits in the next 40 overs. My personal effort was that I will make as many runs as I can in power play."

"It wasn't that I wanted to get out after power play. I had to play with the same momentum, with the same intent. Unfortunately, I got out. But my plan and my game plan and the way I see my batting is very simple and straightforward," he explained.

After the 2-0 drubbing in the Island Nation, Rohit and Team India's next assignment will be the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which commences next month. The series will be a part of the WTC cycle.
