Shubman Gill was at his imperial best in the ongoing Indian Premier League Qualifier 2 match against the Mumbai Indians.

The elegant batter registered his third hundred of the IPL 2023, and broke several records in the process as the Gujarat Titans posted a mammoth 233 for 3 on the board.

Having being put to bat, Gill was dropped by Tim David early in the innings, and the GT opener made them pay with a sublime range of stroke-making that left everyone stunned. Gill hammered his hundred in 49 deliveries, and was eventually dismissed for a breath-taking 60-ball 129, laced with 10 sixes and 7 fours.

After the heroic knock, Gill spoke to the official broadcaster during the mid-innings and talked about the process of his innings.

"Actually I went to the washroom to set my hair and didn't think that I will be wearing this [On wearing the orange cap]. It was sweating a lot, it went into my eyes too. The short boundaries play a part, as a batter we need to keep that in mind and target according to that.

When the bowlers bowled on the good area, we need to just think of taking doubles. I thought the ball held a bit in the first couple of overs, and there was no grass on the pitch so the ball was coming onto the bat nicely also due to some wet patches on the field the ball stopped swinging."

Apart from Gill, useful contributions from Sai Sudharsan (43 off 31) and Hardik Pandya (28 off 13) has taken the defending champions to a strong total. However, Mumbai have chased down 200 plus totals on four occasions this season, and will be confident enough to chase it down again.
