Mumbai Indians (MI) and Cameron Green had a near-perfect affair against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday as they push for their playoff chances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Thanks to Green's maiden T20 century, Mumbai chased down their fourth 200-plus target this season; however, the chase had a brief period where the Australian all-rounder could have missed on his century by a whisker.

After Rohit Sharma's dismissal on 56, Green got accompanied by Suryakumar Yadav - who is having the time of his life - in the middle. The swashbuckling batter started off with a majestic lofted inside-out shot, and it seemed that the lanky all-rounder would miss his dreamy three-figure mark as SKY would finish off the game on his own.

But as luck would have it, the 23-year-old notched up his first-ever hundred as both the batters went berserk from both ends before Surya did something extraordinary to help Green to the landmark.

While describing his chat with SKY during their partnership, Green shared what he asked his partner to do.

"I instructed SKY to finish it once we had 20 runs left to chase. We had a couple of runs and we just went past the victory line," he mentioned during the post-match interview with the broadcaster.

MI's overseas recruit credited his skipper Rohit Sharma and batting coach Kieron Pollard for his success for the five-time champions. Further in the interview, he also stated that when a batter has players like Rohit, Surya and Ishan Kishan, then it helps.

"Yeah, obviously it was a great partnership with Rohit Sharma. He has so much experience playing at these stages and it was a great feeling batting with him. Yes, from the Mumbai family, the motivation is always there. The whole setup has been awesome. This innings was probably for me. (Kieron) Pollard has helped me with range hitting. Having players like Rohit, Ishan, and SKY help with intent at the top."

During MI's league phase campaign - where they bagged 16 points, Green was an exceptional cog. With the willow, he has amassed 381 runs at an average of 54.43 with a dazzling strike rate of 159.41. Meanwhile, his bowling needs to be much more polished for the shortest form, as his numbers (6 wickets off 14 innings) suggest.

The Rohit Sharma-led unit has reached the fourth spot on the points table, but their qualification would rely on Bangalore versus Gujarat's result.
