'He Worried Australia in the Last Series, So...': Allan Border on Jofra Archer's Unavailability

Australian batters will heave a sigh of relief knowing England speedster Jofra Archer won't feature in the upcoming 'The Ashes' 2023 series next month. Archer troubled Australia in 2019, where he finished as the third-highest wicket-taker with 22 scalps, in the series which ended in 2-2.

The pacer has been ruled out of England's summer of cricket due to stress fracture.  Speaking to Fox Cricket, former Australian skipper Allan Border has said that Archer's unavailability will be a massive blow for the hosts, as the bowler provided that much-needed X-factor as well.

Archer last played a Test for England in 2021 in India, and since then has been dealing with back and elbow stress fractures.

Here's what Border said

“Archer worried our guys in the last series, so he’s a big out for England. It’s good to have that X-factor bowler, who you can bring on know he’s going to upset the opposition, doesn’t matter what the tracks are like. He’s got that raw pace that no one likes facing … you don’t find them on the shelf too often.”

Archer most recently played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for Mumbai Indians (MI) before cutting his trip short after playing just five matches.  Overall since 2019, Archer has played 13 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 15 T20Is for England, nabbing 102 wickets, combined.

Australia will meet India in the ICC World Test Championship Final on June 7, before the first Ashes Test, which starts June 16.
