Manjrekar Lauds Ashwin’s Spell On Flat Ahmedabad Wicket

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has praised Ravichandran Ashwin for snaring six Australian wickets in the series-deciding Ahmedabad Test. The star all-rounder conceded just 91 runs while toiling away for 47.2 overs, and in doing so, registered the 32nd five-wicket haul of his Test career.
The cricketer-turned-commentator also pointed that Ashwin troubled every Australian batter during their run marathon, except young all-rounder Cameron Green.
Manjrekar says Ashwin got wickets off good balls on flat surface
During a discussion on Star Sports, former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar lavished praised on Ashwin for claiming a six-fer on a flat Ahmedabad surface.
However, the commentator implied that the Indian spinner was lucky to dismiss a well-settled Green, who was caught by the wicketkeeper down the leg-side. Manjrekar further elaborated that the senior Indian all-rounder did managed to trouble the rest of the Australian batters, as he claimed his remaining victims off good balls.
“Finally he realized that the slower you bowl on this pitch, the better it is. He has picked up many five-wicket hauls but to do that on a flat pitch on Day 1 and 2. The first wicket was Travis Head, he beat him with flight. Barring Cameron Green, he got all other wickets with good balls.”
Interestingly, Ashwin himself lavished praise on Cameron Green for his maiden Test ton. The 36-year-old even described the young Australian as a “once-in-a-generation” cricketer, after he smoked 114 and formed a 208-run stand with Usman Khawaja.
